Under the direction of Primary Health Care Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services to the community. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs. This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals. Human Resources Exemption: No Experience * 3 years experience as a RN in critical care, ER, acute care or primary care. * One year experience in community needs assessment/development/health promotion Education * Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) Other Education and Training * International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS) * Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (PALS) * Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS) * Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Specialization * Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS) Competencies * Critical thinking skills * Verbal communication skills * Leadership skills * Organizational skills Knowledge and Abilities * Ability to adapt to and implement change * Knowledge in health services delivery in primary care and rural settings * Knowledge in the principles of Population Health Promotion * Ability to take initiative * Knowledge of community programs/services * Positive approach to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity * Knowledge in philosophy and principles of holistic health care * Knowledge of common medical conditions and treatments.
