DESCRIPTION Heritage House Publishing is seeking a creative, collaborative, strategic-minded Publicist to join our team on a part-time basis (20–24 hours per week). Reporting to the Associate Publisher, the Publicist will plan and generate dynamic publicity campaigns to create public awareness of our books. This position is remote but presents the opportunity to work with Heritage House team members in Victoria and/or the Lower Mainland, BC. Heritage House Publishing is an independent book publisher based in Victoria, BC, within the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Esquimalt, and Songhees), Malahat, Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke and W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) Peoples. We are a Certified Canadian Publisher specializing in regional interest, history, memoir/biography, nature, and children’s books. Key Responsibilities: • Create and execute comprehensive media and publicity plans for approximately 20 new titles per year, including media pitches, review submissions, festival pitches, and event planning. • Develop and maintain positive relationships with media, event organizers, and booksellers. • Track and record all media hits, events, and award news and circulate regular publicity updates to sales reps. • Assist in guiding authors through the cycle of each book, explaining the publicity process and collaborating with them to create dynamic, realistic plans. • Build and maintain a growing database of contacts for traditional media, genre- and book-specific organizations, educational and academic institutions, literary awards, and literary festivals. • Participate in weekly HHP team meetings, monthly marketing meetings, and seasonal sales meetings with Canadian and US reps. Skills & Qualifications: • 3+ years of recent experience in book publishing or related field (marketing, communications, media, public relations). • Post-secondary education in publishing or related field. • Familiarity with current media landscape, including in-depth knowledge of new trends and strategies. • Knowledge of the Canadian publishing industry, particularly regional-interest and children’s books. • Strong media contacts across Canada and the US, but particularly in western Canada (BC and Prairies). • Excellent time-management and project-management skills, with proven ability to adhere to timelines and budgets. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively. • Knowledge of G Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
