Job summary

Are you a senior full stack developer who is ready to lead projects and people, but not ready to give up the code? Hour Consulting is hiring on behalf of our client, a Canadian technology consulting firm, for a Lead Full Stack Developer. This is hands-on technical leadership. You will own client development projects from initial conversation through production, lead the developers delivering them, and still spend meaningful time in the code. You will make architecture decisions, set technical direction, guide developers through design and code reviews, and become a trusted technical partner to clients when the problem is complex and the path forward is not obvious. About Our Client Our client is a Toronto-based software engineering and technology consulting firm helping mid-to-large enterprises modernize their digital ecosystems through modern architectures, cloud platforms, custom development, and API-driven integrations. They are Great Place to Work® Certified and have an engineering culture where people are expected to think, challenge assumptions, and take ownership, not simply execute. AI-assisted development is already part of how they build. What You Will Do Lead development projects end to end, from scoping and solution design through delivery, build, and go-live Lead and mentor full stack developers, setting technical direction, unblocking challenges, reviewing code, and raising engineering standards Own architecture and key technical decisions on your projects Act as the primary technical point of contact for client stakeholders Stay hands-on across the stack using TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, React, Next.js, and Microsoft Azure Champion AI-assisted development and contribute to AI-powered features, integrations, APIs, and automation Work closely with distributed development teams to deliver high-quality solutions What You Bring 6–10 years of professional software development experience Experience leading developers, technical projects, or end-to-end delivery Strong full stack development experience with TypeScript Strong backend experience with Node.js and NestJS, or a similar framework Strong frontend experience with React and Next.js Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Experience with Docker / Dev Containers and Agile delivery environments Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with clients Experience with, or genuine interest in, AI-assisted software development Nice to Have Experience with large enterprise data migrations, legacy platform migrations, or cutover planning Consulting, agency, professional services, or other client-facing experience Experience collaborating with distributed or offshore development teams Hands-on experience building AI/LLM features or working with Azure AI or OpenAI APIs Experience with prompt design or Context Engineering University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field Personal development projects or open-source contributions The Kind of Lead Who Will Thrive Here You do not need to have all the answers, but you do need a high bar for thinking, building, and bringing others along with you. You still enjoy getting into the code and understanding how things really work. You are comfortable challenging assumptions, making technical decisions, and pushing back when it is in the client's best interest. You take ownership of outcomes and make the developers around you better through mentoring, thoughtful review, and example.
