Database Platform Engineer Halifax (Hybrid-2 days in office) Our client a dynamic Information Technology services company that partners with leading global organizations to deliver innovative, high-quality IT solutions is looking for an experienced Database Platform Engineer, responsible for designing, securing, automating and operating a business-critical, multi-platform database estate. This is a hands-on engineering rolefor a true database generalist. You'll work across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Elasticsearch on both Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows Server, driving platform reliability, automation, standardisation and continuous improvement. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of our database platforms, leading automation and modernization initiatives while supporting business-critical services. This is an opportunity to work across a broad technology stack, influence technical direction and mentor other engineers in a collaborative, engineering-focused team. Responsibilities Design, build and support highly available database platforms across multiple technologies. Automate database provisioning, configuration and operational tasks using Ansible and scripting. Lead platform upgrades, migrations, patching and vulnerability remediation. Improve backup, recovery and disaster recovery capabilities across the estate. Build and maintain monitoring, alerting and observability using Prometheus, LogicMonitor and related tooling. Reduce technical debt and standardize database platforms and operational practices. Lead technical investigations for major incidents and drive root cause resolution. Mentor engineers, contribute to engineering standards and provide technical leadership across the team. Qualifications 7+ years' experience in database engineering, with experience leading technical initiatives. Strong operational expertise across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Elasticsearch. Strong Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration skills. Experience with high availability, replication, performance tuning, backup/recovery and major version upgrades. Strong automation skills using Ansible, plus scripting in Python, PowerShell or Bash. Experience with Prometheus, monitoring platforms and Infrastructure as Code. Excellent troubleshooting, communication and mentoring skills. Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments with ITIL-based processes. Nice to have Kubernetes, Terraform or Puppet. NoSQL technologies such as Cassandra or MongoDB. Cross-platform database migrations. Security tooling (Tenable/Nessus), PKI/TLS and certificate automation. Relevant database, cloud or Linux certifications. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team.
