Overview Of The Role The Finance Manager provides hands-on and strategic financial leadership for Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band. This role is responsible for strengthening financial planning, budgeting, reporting, audit readiness, internal controls and financial administration practices across the organization. Working closely with the General Manager, Chief and Council, managers, employees, funders, auditors and external advisors, the Finance Manager will help establish clear financial processes, support responsible decision-making, and build financial capacity throughout the organization. This is a foundational leadership role for the Band. The successful candidate will bring strong technical finance skills, a practical and organized approach, and the ability to explain financial information clearly to people with varying levels of financial knowledge. The role requires someone who can respectfully support managers and leadership to understand budgets, monitor variances, strengthen accountability and make informed decisions that protect the Nation’s resources and support long-term sustainability. Location: Band office and community, Burns Lake, BC Employment Status: Full-time, permanent Work Arrangement: In office Reports to: General Manager, with advisory and reporting relationship to Chief and Council Compensation: $80k-90k/year based on experience Key Responsibilities Leading annual and long-term budgeting, financial planning, forecasting and cash flow management. Preparing clear and timely financial reports, variance analysis, dashboards and briefing materials for leadership, funders, Chief and Council. Providing practical financial advice to support responsible decision-making, accountability and the sustainable use of resources across the organization. Overseeing day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, general ledger, purchasing, cash management and financial records. Strengthening internal controls, approval processes, documentation, financial policies and procedures. Monitoring funding agreements, reporting deadlines, eligible expenditures and compliance requirements. Supporting funding applications, budgets, claims, reports and related financial documentation. Leading audit preparation, year-end close, working papers, and responses to auditor requests. Identifying financial risks, reporting gaps, audit findings and control issues, and recommending practical solutions. Supervising, coaching and supporting finance staff, including work planning, training, and performance management. Building financial understanding across the organization by supporting managers and employees to understand budgets, reports, coding and funding restrictions. Modelling confidentiality, professionalism, accountability, patience and service-oriented leadership. What You Bring Skills & Qualifications Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field; an equivalent combination of education, training and progressive experience may be considered. Minimum of five years of progressive finance and accounting experience. Minimum of two years of leadership or supervisory experience. Experience with budgeting, cash flow forecasting, asset management, audit preparation, funding agreements, payroll, financial policies, and internal controls. Strong knowledge of financial reporting, variance analysis, reconciliations, and financial administration practices. Proficiency in MS Excel, data analysis and systems. Ability to build effective working relationships with various stakeholders. Professionalism and ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Preferred CPA designation. Experience working with a First Nation government, Indigenous organization or community-based organization. Experience with Adagio and PayDirt software. What We Offer Extended health and dental benefits after 90 days of employment. Three weeks of vacation to start. Strong technical skills in financial reporting, budgeting, and proficiency in MS Excel are required, with a CPA designation and experience in Indigenous organizations considered assets.
