Role: Mechanical Technologist Type: Contract-Hire Location: Onsite 5x/week in Cambridge Rate: $27-$28/hr JOB DESCRIPTION IG is looking for a Mechanical Technologist to support the engineering team in the design of uptower cranes used for completing major corrective repairs of wind turbines. This role prepares drawings and 3D models and supports the design and testing of up-tower lifting equipment and tooling, and provides technical support to field crews. The position works closely with Operations, Project Management, and Health & Safety to ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. Key Responsibilities : • Prepare and revise 2D drawings and 3D models of crane interfaces, lifting tools, fixtures, rigging arrangements, and custom repair tooling using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.). • Develop and maintain bills of materials, part specifications, and engineering change records. • Assist in preparing lift plans, rigging plans, and method statements for up-tower component exchanges (e.g., main bearings, gearboxes, generators, blades). • Perform basic engineering calculations (loads, weights, centers of gravity, bolt torque, sling angles) under the direction of a Professional Engineer. • Work with Operations teams to make design improvements to existing tooling and equipment Maintain organized, version-controlled engineering files and technical records. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • 2-5 years of experience as an engineering technologist or in a similar technical role. • Experience with lifting equipment, rigging, heavy mechanical systems, or tooling design is highly desirable. • Experience in wind energy, power generation, heavy industrial, or construction environments considered an asset. • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and AutoCAD. • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, fasteners, and fabrication processes. • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational skills. • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, and willingness to complete required safety training (e.g., GWO Working at Heights). Valid driver’s license and ability to travel NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation through OACETT, or eligibility to obtain, considered an asset. We may use artificial intelligence tools to assist with the screening, assessment, or selection of potential applicants for this position. Experience with lifting equipment or heavy mechanical systems is desirable; candidates must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces, complete required safety training, hold a valid driver’s license, and be able to travel.
