Job summary
Our client, a rapidly growing startup based in Mississauga is looking for an Accounting Manager to join the team! In this role, you will own day-to-day accounting: general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, accounts payable, and cash management. Reporting directly into the CFO. What you'll do Accounting & Financial Reporting Write accounting policies and procedures, and build the right internal controls for the company's size and stage Roll out AI tools across accounting and finance - close, reconciliations, documentation, and transactions - in a way that's controlled and easy to audit Run month-end close and prepare monthly financial statements (accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation) Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, record transactions, and reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts Handle payroll accounting and related accruals, and take on payroll processing and remittances as the function grows Purchasing & Payments Lead the selection and rollout of a purchasing system that connects with the accounting platform Build approval, receiving, and matching workflows, including spending limits and documentation standards Track and report on open purchase commitments Manage accounts payable, corporate cards, and expense reimbursements — vendor setup, invoice processing, payment runs, and policy compliance Cost & Project Accounting Help the CFO design the company's cost accounting framework Maintain project accounting, cost allocation, and timekeeping processes Prepare cost reports by program and department Tax, Grants & Outside Advisors Manage R&D tax credit claims with outside consultants, working toward doing this in-house over time Track and document eligible costs for grants and funding programs, and prepare claims and reports Be the main point of contact with outside tax advisors, and help manage insurance renewals Cash Management Prepare and maintain a rolling cash flow forecast Manage daily cash across Canadian and U.S. dollar accounts — currency conversion, cash positioning, banking, and collecting grant receivables Required CPA designation 6+ years of accounting experience Can run a full accounting cycle solo - month-end close through financial statements Experience building accounting processes or controls somewhere they didn't already exist Experience at an early-stage or fast-growing company Real experience using AI tools at work, and good judgment about applying them to whole processes, not just one-off tasks
