Position Conditions: This is a full-time, permanent position of 40 hours per week, and it will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69.
The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

Rate of Pay: $29.68- $30.77 per hour (2026 Rate)
Closing Date: 11:59pm on June 1, 2026.
This competition will include testing and an interview.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To ensure the safe and efficient operations and maintenance of Brandon’s Community Sportsplex including the refrigeration plant, commercial pool system, heating and ventilation systems, and all related equipment.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plant Maintenance & Operations
- Operates and maintains the facility refrigeration plant and boiler system in compliance with the provisions of The Power Engineers Act and regulations;
- Operates and maintains various building systems such as ventilation units, dehumidifiers, air conditioning, pool filtration, chlorination and all related mechanical equipment;
- Operates and maintains ice maintenance equipment to clean natural and artificial ice surfaces;
- Performs grounds and building maintenance tasks as required, including snow removal, painting, minor plumbing, welding, carpentry and mechanical;
- Determines the need for skilled trades people to attend the facility to manage equipment malfunctions or servicing;
- Tests and treats pool water to meet proper specifications and adds chemicals as required.
General Facility Operations
- Provides professional and courteous service to the public;
- Supervises user groups and enforces facility rules;
- Assists the Recreation Coordinator - Sportsplex on project planning and implementation of capital and operating projects;
- Operates computerized building management system and troubleshoots in the event of a problem;
- Collects fees and allocate equipment for the Clerk/Receptionist as required;
- As assigned, works as the facility lead hand to direct the work of other facility staff.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12, G.E.D., or Mature High School Diploma;
- Refrigeration Class Power Engineer Certificate or higher;
- Hold and maintain a Class 5 Province of Manitoba driver's license (must be obtained prior to start date);
- Hold and maintain first aid and CPR certification (must be obtained prior to start date);
- Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (must be obtained prior to start date).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Six (6) months experience operating a physical plant.
WORK CONDITIONS
The Facility Operator works independently and in a team environment.
- Works in a shared and consultative manner with other employees (daily);
- Self-motivated and quality driven to perform independent projects and facilitate team goals (daily);
- Works in areas of confined space, heights, and adverse noise, temperatures, and odours (frequently);
- Responsible to the Recreation Coordinator - Sportsplex
