About the role
BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is seeking Auxiliary/Casual Simulated Participants to support student practice and examinations under BCIT’sSimulated Participant Program.
Under the supervision of a licensed Instructor, a Simulated Participant (SP) supports the experiential and simulated learning by portraying patients, family members, and/or health care professionals in simulated clinical problems or scenarios for course practice, assessments, and examinations. The SP provides a consistent and realistic portrayal of real-life clinical scenarios, predefined for the course learning needs, student practice and examinations.
This job is on an on-call, as needed basis. Hours of work are dependent on simulation needs and the incumbent’s best fit for the characteristics needed in the scenarios being simulated. Hours of work are on a casual basis and can range from 4 – 8 hours a day, 1 – 8 times per semester when called for in for a simulation.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES**:**

Simulates patient, family members, and/or health care professionals in predefined case scenarios by portraying realistic behaviours, interactions and patient reactions that are specifically needed for the course teaching and examinations.

Reviews and understands the assigned simulation criteria needs to deliver a live simulation that is realistic and that is required to meet the need of the specific course teaching, student practice or examination.

Simulates scenarios consistently for each class practice, teaching or examination to ensure student practice & learning is delivered consistently the same across student learning and examinations.

Uses simulation technology as required for the simulation.

Meets with course instructors, participates in training and orientation sessions to prepare for simulations, to learn of the specific needs of the simulation learning and of any technology use needed.

Memorizes scripts for the simulation, adhering to the simulation outlined.

Provides unbiased and constructive feedback to students, when instructed, and as set out during SP orientation and training sessions.

Participates in patient physical examinations as required.

Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).

Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade for this position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS**:**

Education:
- Reading and writing at a grade 10 level.
Experience:
- None required. On the job training will be provided
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:
- Basic computer skills (ability to operate a computer).
Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the common language of the course.
- Good comprehension skills and the ability to understand, follow directions and incorporate trainer feedback. Comfortable having interactions with others to simulate the scenario needed.
Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.):
- For Simulated Participants who participate in virtual sessions, requires access to a secure internet connection in a private place.
Other Skills/Abilities:

Ability to memorize (sometimes verbatim) medical/personal history, symptoms and other patient information.

Comfort and willingness to participate in a physical exam and/or an on-line scenario.

Salary Range
Salary Grade 3: $25.97 - $28.65 per hour.
Additional Salary Information
External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
