Position Summary As an Electrical Designer Draftsperson, you will prepare accurate technical drawings, layouts, and documentation for electrical power distribution equipment and systems. In this role, you will create and revise drawings based on engineering specifications, customer requirements, and manufacturing standards. You will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and sales teams to support project execution and ensure drawings are complete, accurate, and aligned with company standards. This position may also involve customer site visits to review technical scopes and confirm project requirements.
Key Responsibilities Drafting: Prepare and revise detailed technical drawings, schematics, layouts, and bills of materials (BOM) for electrical equipment. Interpretation: Translate engineering sketches, specifications, and customer requirements into accurate manufacturing drawings. Collaboration: Work with engineering, production, sales, and external manufacturers on design optimization and quality control. Compliance: Ensure all drawings comply with applicable industry standards, electrical codes, and internal company procedures. Data Management: Maintain organized drawing revisions, project records, and technical documentation. Project Support: Assist with the preparation of submittal packages and customer documentation. Quality Control: Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability prior to production release. Continuous Improvement: Support initiatives to optimize drafting standards and engineering workflows. Site Visits: Participate in customer or site meetings to gather technical information and review project scopes.
Qualifications & Experience Education: Diploma, degree, or certificate in Drafting, Engineering Design, Electrical Technology, Industrial Design, or a related field. Experience: Experience in electrical drafting within an industrial manufacturing environment is highly preferred. Schematic Literacy: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications. Control Systems: Ability to create electrical logic diagrams for AC and DC control systems. Component Knowledge: Understanding of metering and protection instrument transformer (CTs and VTs) specifications. Power Systems: Knowledge of high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems is a strong asset. Regulations: Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) is considered an asset. Project Management: Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple project deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Licence: Valid BC Driver's Licence.
Technical & Computer Skills CAD Software: Proficiency with BricsCAD, AutoCAD, or similar drafting software. Productivity Suites: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Drive). Systems: Experience with manufacturing ERP software and document management systems
