About the role
Senior Contracts Advisor (Coach) Location: Alberta or Ontario Contract: 12 Months
Introduction Our client is seeking a Contracts Management Coach to enhance the capabilities of a Technical & Corporate Procurement team by providing hands-on coaching and guidance to Contract Specialists and Buyers. This role focuses on addressing skill gaps, strengthening contract management practices, and streamlining procurement processes to improve efficiency and reduce reliance on external resources.
Responsibilities Provide specialized support to improve contract formation, including development of detailed scopes of work and commercial terms to mitigate legal and commercial risks Act as a trusted advisor during contract drafting and negotiation to ensure robust, comprehensive agreements Deliver hands-on coaching and training to Contract Specialists and Buyers, with a focus on contract formation, negotiation, and issue resolution Mentor procurement personnel to build internal capability and foster self-sufficiency in managing complex contractual challenges Act as an intermediary between procurement and legal teams by managing initial contract qualifications and supplier negotiations Support efficient collaboration with Legal to streamline contract review processes and reduce turnaround times Accelerate resolution of contractor terms and conditions, enabling faster procurement cycles and project execution Support the adoption and effective use of contract management tools, ensuring strong alignment between systems and practical application Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to continuous enhancement of contract management and procurement practices
Requirements University degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline 10+ years of experience in procurement, contract management, or strategic sourcing Demonstrated experience in contract formation, drafting, and negotiation of complex agreements SCMP, CPSM, or equivalent certification is considered an asset Strong expertise in contract management, including risk mitigation and commercial strategy Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop procurement professionals Strong understanding of indirect procurement processes within large organizations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
