Role Overview/Purpose:
Reporting to the Chief Assayer, the Assay Lab Supervisor will participate in activities of the plant’s assay laboratory to ensure the provision of timely and accurate test results. Other duties include carrying out analytical tests on ore processed in the mill to determine metal content. This position will be involved in the testing of all mine and mill samples including sample preparation and fire assay.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Participates in the plant’s assay laboratory activities to ensure timely and accurate test results including carrying out analytical tests on ore processed in the mill to determine gold content.
- Participate within the onsite Environment Laboratory for the purpose of internal water analysis to support the samples from the process plant, Dore’, TMF, as well as an onsite water treatment plant.
- Participate in the testing of mine samples including sample preparation, wet assays, environment assays, fire assay and other related analyses.
- Supervise the activities of assigned personnel in the plant’s assay laboratory. This position will require the full compliance with the supervisor common core certification program.
- Participate in the development of SOPS for each procedure utilized in the assay laboratory. Where a procedure may encounter a risk toward health, safety and/or environment, a SWP/JHA will be required to eliminate or mitigate the risk.
- Assist in the Development of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), QAQC and training manuals.
- Perform supervisory responsibilities at the level established by management for the position.
- Exercise general supervision of the preparation and analysis of plant samples. This includes checking that equipment is properly calibrated and well maintained, ensuring use of the proper chemicals and analytical methods.
- Comparing the results with standard samples for compliance with permitted tolerances and endorsing test results.
- Support and develop an accurate and timely data delivery system back to the customers. This will involve the use of a LIMS package to work with all measuring equipment in the lab.
- Assist in developing the most cost effective and accurate methods and procedures. This includes reviewing present methods and as necessary modifying to suit required applications.
- Ensure the continuing availability of consumable supplies, reagents, and equipment spares. This includes carrying out regular checks of stock levels and following up with Purchasing staff as necessary.
- Create an environment that fosters a safe working environment.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives of the department.
- Strong commitment to Safety, health, risk management and environmental standards.
What You Bring to the Table:
- University degree or College diploma in Chemical or Analytical Sciences.
- Assayer Certification preferred.
- 3-4 years’ laboratory/fire assay experience with a strong mineral processing background
- Experience operating a variety of laboratory instruments, (AAS, LECO, ICP)
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office software and LIMS.
- Proven ability to analyse problems, prioritize issues, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions.
- Emergency Response experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and foster safe working habits in others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the operation.
- Effective decision-making skills.
- Integrity, focus, and a strong work ethic.
- Lead assay team in the absence of the Chief Assayer

Working Conditions:
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 off (12-hour days).
- Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.

This is an existing vacancy.
Pay Range $90,000-156,500 annually.
The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
