Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Senior Analyst, Enterprise Cloud for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Cloud Services and Architecture, the Senior Analyst, Enterprise Cloud is responsible for supporting MacEwan’s cloud computing environments across Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft Azure with a focus on AWS. You will be responsible for monitoring, optimizing, and securing cloud resources, ensuring cost efficiency, performance, and compliance. A significant responsibility of the role is maintaining Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) Deployments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the primary point of contact for operational enterprise cloud-related inquiries and concerns; demonstrating a clear understanding of the university’s complex integrated environment between on-premise and cloud environments, including the flow of data into and out of the environments, the impact on system functionality, and the related security implications;
- Analyzing current and/or new system requirements in the design and analysis phase of systems development lifecycle to ensure that the needs of the business units and University strategic initiatives are met; developing detailed technical requirements from business and functional specifications;
- Maintaining and improving MacEwan's cloud infrastructure, following industry best practices for resiliency and cyber security;
- Using monitoring tools, alerts, dashboards, and response mechanisms for fault detection, performance anomalies, and security events, to ensure rapid incident detection;
- Proactively identifying potential issues and addressing them before they impact end-users where possible;
- Remaining current with emerging technologies and providing expertise in relevant industry standards, trends; researching, analyzing, and evaluating applicability and feasibility of new technologies, changes or enhancements to current technologies, and effects of new methodologies; assessing the enterprise cloud-related impacts of hardware, software or environment changes; and
- Making recommendations on future cloud resource needs based on historical trends, business growth, and workload demands to ensure adequate infrastructure provisioning.
Skills
You will have:
- A strong knowledge of and experience with cloud security best practices and compliance standards;
- A strong knowledge of and experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies;
- A strong understanding of cloud architectures, networking, storage, and security across multiple cloud providers;
- Proficiency with scripting languages, cloud monitoring tools, automation tools, containerization (Kubernetes) and serverless computing;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively;
- The ability to troubleshoot cloud-related issues and perform root cause analysis;
- The ability to provide insights and recommendations on best practices for cloud infrastructure, security, and governance;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to interact with end-users, technical teams, and stakeholders at various levels; and
- A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to providing high-quality service.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computing Science, Information Technology or related field.
- Certifications in AWS, Azure, and/or GCP would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience administering complex enterprise multi-cloud environments.
- Familiarity with or experience in a post-secondary or other public sector environment would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
- The nature of the position requires the Senior Analyst, Enterprise Cloud, to participate in the ITS on-call schedule for after-hours support.
- May be required to work outside of normal operational hours (i.e., evenings and weekends) to support urgent issues if they arise.
