Summary:
The Carrier Sourcing Specialist is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing Canadian trucking carriers across domestic transportation lanes. This role plays a key part in securing reliable carrier capacity, negotiating competitive freight rates, and controlling transportation spend while maintaining service quality and regulatory compliance. Working closely with Transportation Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain, and Finance, the role leads carrier sourcing initiatives, RFQs, and contract negotiations, and builds strong long‑term carrier partnerships to support business growth.
Typical Responsibilities:
Source, evaluate, and onboard Canadian trucking carriers supporting TL, LTL, intermodal, and specialty services
Lead rate negotiations with carriers to secure competitive pricing while ensuring service reliability and capacity
Plan and execute RFQs/RFPs and lane bidding events aligned with Canadian transportation market conditions
Support annual carrier sourcing strategies and contract renewals
Negotiate and manage carrier contracts, including pricing structures, fuel surcharge programs, and service level agreements
Maintain accurate contract documentation and ensure compliance with agreed commercial terms
Monitor carrier performance against KPIs and SLAs; escalate service or capacity issues as required
Resolve rate discrepancies, accessorial disputes, and invoicing issues in collaboration with internal teams and carriers
Analyze freight spend, lane performance, and carrier pricing to identify cost‑saving and optimization opportunities
Track market trends including trucking capacity, fuel impacts, GRIs, and regional pricing dynamics
Provide input into transportation budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting
Ensure carriers comply with Canadian regulatory requirements, including safety standards, insurance, and federal/provincial regulations
Collaborate with Logistics, Transportation Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to align sourcing strategies with operational requirements
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to transportation sourcing and carrier performance
Requirements:
Post‑secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field
3–6 years of experience in transportation sourcing, carrier procurement, or logistics within Canada
Proven experience negotiating domestic trucking rates and managing carrier relationships
Strong understanding of Canadian transportation markets and lane‑based pricing
Solid Excel skills for rate analysis, lane costing, and supplier comparisons
Experience with TMS or ERP systems is an asset
Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship‑building skills
Detail‑oriented, well‑organized, and able to manage multiple sourcing initiatives
Commercially minded and cost‑focused
Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related discipline
4+ years of experience in Canadian transportation sourcing or logistics procurement
Professional designation (SCMP, PMAC/SCMA) considered an asset
Knowledge of:
Canadian trucking capacity trends
Fuel surcharge mechanisms
Regional lane pricing and seasonality
