Registered Early Childhood Educator / Supply
JOB SUMMARY
The Childcare Educator is responsible for providing a safe, caring, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children in a licensed childcare setting. The educator supports children’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development through age-appropriate programming, positive interactions, and responsive care.
Educators are expected to uphold the centre’s Islamic values, follow licensing requirements, support daily routines, communicate professionally with families and colleagues, and contribute to a positive childcare environment.
This posting may apply to full-time and/or supply childcare educator positions, including Registered Early Childhood Educators and other qualified childcare staff based on centre needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the Employment Contract, childcare educators are expected to:
- Plan, implement, and support developmentally appropriate activities that reflect children’s interests, needs, and abilities.
- Provide a daily balance of indoor, outdoor, active, quiet, individual, and group experiences.
- Create a warm, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports children’s well-being and sense of belonging.
- Supervise children closely at all times and ensure their health, safety, and well-being.
- Follow all childcare licensing requirements, centre policies, health and safety procedures, and administrative directions.
- Support children during daily routines, including arrival, departure, meals, toileting, diapering, rest time, transitions, and outdoor play.
- Use positive guidance strategies, including redirection, encouragement, modelling, and respectful communication.
- Observe children’s development, document learning, and contribute to program planning as required.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, daily logs, incident reports, accident reports, and required documentation.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents regarding daily routines, child progress, and concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and centre matters.
- Work cooperatively with the childcare team and contribute to a respectful, supportive workplace.
- Keep classrooms, materials, equipment, and learning areas clean, organized, safe, and ready for use.
- Report safety concerns, injuries, illnesses, incidents, or child protection concerns according to centre procedures and legal requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and centre events as required.
- Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, professionalism, and respect for the centre’s Islamic values and code of conduct.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should meet the following qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators is required for RECE positions.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification is required or must be obtained before employment.
- Vulnerable Sector Check and required health documentation must be provided before starting employment.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with toddlers, preschool children, or in a licensed childcare setting is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate programming.
- Ability to supervise children actively and maintain a safe environment.
- Positive classroom management and child-guidance skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Professional judgment, confidentiality, and reliability.
- Ability to work in a busy childcare environment with flexibility and patience.
- Respect for Islamic values and commitment to a positive centre culture.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves working in a licensed childcare environment with young children. Duties may include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, assisting children with routines, outdoor supervision, and responding to multiple needs at the same time. Educators must be able to maintain active supervision and respond appropriately to emergencies, health concerns, and daily program needs.
