Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work site environment: Hog and pig farming. Hog management. Hot. Noisy. Odours. Work setting: Rural area. Tasks: Handling animals. Marking livestock as proof of ownership. Monitoring animal health. Perform pig littering activities such as clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medication(s), identification of piglets, and castration. Treat livestock health issues. Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures. Carry out a pasture or pen breeding programs. Co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers. Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed. Formulate feeding program. Maintain livestock performance records. Maintain quality control and production records. Select livestock for sale. Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs. Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment. Perform general farm duties. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Equipment and machinery experience: Automated manure handling or storage system. Feeding and watering system. Area of specialization: Swine. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Tight deadlines. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Large workload. Personal suitability: Excellent oral communication. Organized. Team player.
