Teacher Consultant - Provincial Outreach Prgm (Deafblind)
About the role
A Teacher Consultant will be required as a member of the BC Provincial Outreach Program for Students with Deafblindness (POPDB). The Teacher Consultant will work as a member of the provincial outreach team in providing support to school districts, independent schools, and online schools who enroll students who are deafblind throughout British Columbia. The foundation of our program is supporting deafblind intervention through building capacity, trusting relationships, and student-centred programming, with the goal of meaningful inclusion, access, and participation for students with deafblindness in British Columbia.
Travel throughout the province will be required as consultative services are provided in students' school district or independent school. This position also requires the ability, at times, to have flexible working hours to accommodate travel and additional meeting responsibilities. Support for students with deafblindness in online schools is provided virtually.
Supporting school district professionals in the meaningful inclusion of students who are deafblind, the Teacher Consultant's role involves the following:
- identify the needs of the student
- work collaboratively with school teams to create and implement the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and develop program planning
- provide programming recommendations and resources for meaningful inclusion, access, and participation
- provide direct and ongoing support to school-based team through regular consultation visits
- develop and teach courses related to deafblind Intervention to educators currently supporting a student with deafblindness
- prepare and deliver workshops and presentations on topics related to deafblindness for in-person and online audiences
- participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities in the field of deafblindness
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have:
- experience as a teacher in K-12 settings
- academic prepration, training, and coursework in deafblindness
- demonstrated experience in providing educational and/or resource services to students with deafblindness
- preference will be given to candidates with a Master's Level credentials in visual impairments and blindness, and/or deaf and hard of hearing
- demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- effective oral and written skills, as well as excellent organizational and time management skills
- a valid BC Driver's License and vehicle
- an ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the province that may require air travel and/or overnight stays
