About the Role:
The Safety Advisor II/Lead Investigator works closely with field staff, clients and subcontractors, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. Safety Advisor II's will support the creation of site-specific plans and be a mentor to other safety professionals within the company. The Specialist must be committed to ensuring adherence to safety-related policies, procedures, and regulations while developing positive professional relationships. This is a location-based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires varying amounts of travel.

Essential Functions
- Primarily field based with an office in North Surrey, BC
- Standard working hours 7 am - 4 pm, Monday to Friday (may change based on the needs of the business or projects)
- Coordinate ongoing operational activities with project management and site supervision
- Act as qualified person to perform confined space risk assessments, occupational hygiene assessments and to further develop exposure control plans.
- Occasional travel with limited overnight stays to support the AB region or BC Central Interior on a semi-monthly basis for a few days at a time.
- Act as primary point of contact for site teams pertaining to injuries and incident investigations.
- Coordinate with WPE head office H&S department relating to WPE injury management, RTW, and ongoing claims with WCB.
- Coordinate with H&S Administrator relating to injuries and claims.
- Assist operations in creating site specific emergency response plans, safety boards, PSSPs, JHAs, SWPs, SJPs, SDS, and related H&S documentation.
- Maintain and inspect inventory related to fall protection equipment, confined space equipment, respiratory protective equipment, PPE, fire extinguishers and asset safety. Update project management and supervision with findings.
- Perform regular site walks, FLRA reviews, and site inspections and record in company software
- Complete initial incident reports and final investigation reports.
- Attend weekly safety talks.
- Ensure tag-out system is in place and being followed for defective tools and equipment. Notify project management and supervision of defects.
- Identify H&S deficiencies and implement and assign proper corrective actions in coordination with project management and supervision.
- Coach and mentor site personnel regarding correcting unsafe conditions, unsafe behavior, and unsafe work practices.
- Use stop work authority as required.
- Coordinate with WPE H&S Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee training.
- Participate in site-specific safety planning.
- Ensure regular drills are conducted and recorded.
- Ensure records of training are captured and retained for WPE workers.
- Ensure competency program is being followed and records of competency are maintained for WPE workers.
- Work with Director of Safety Operations as it relates to the needs of the department and the business.
- Other duties as assigned.
About You:
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (HSE) field roles - required
- Documented experience with WorksafeBC reporting, record keeping, and the creation of JHAs, SWPs, SJPs and PSSPs.
- Valid BC driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Minimum of one (1) safety certification is required; RIOH/RIH (Registered Industrial Occupational Hygienist) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
- Undergraduate degree, Diploma or Certificate in in Occupational Safety & Health Management, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene or related technical field preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Thorough understanding of construction project management practices and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of provincial regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety
- Excellent problem-solving and situation analysis skills
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite programs, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence behavior
- Must be a team player with proven ability to work with co-workers, different departments and outside contacts and maintain strong relationships

- Ability to travel for job site visits for extended periods of time

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary $120,000-$140,000 / year
- Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
