Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic Peer Coordinator to be the backbone of our team! In this dynamic role, you will provide leadership, mentorship, and coordination of peer-based services that support individuals experiencing substance use challenges, homelessness, mental health concerns, and other barriers to health and social well-being. Drawing on lived and/or living experience, the Peer Coordinator helps create meaningful opportunities for engagement, belonging, and empowerment while ensuring services are person-centered, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and grounded in harm reduction principles.
The role combines peer navigation, community development, group facilitation, systems advocacy, and community engagement. The Peer Coordinator works collaboratively with participants, service providers, community partners, and interdisciplinary teams to reduce barriers to accessing services and strengthen pathways to health, housing, and community inclusion.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess lived and/or living experience with substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness, recovery, or related systems. A diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience in community development, social services, mental health, substance use, peer support, or a related field is preferred. The successful candidate will bring a minimum of two to three years of experience in peer support, community services, outreach, harm reduction, or related work, along with demonstrated experience facilitating groups, leading community engagement activities, and working with marginalized and vulnerable populations.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of harm reduction, recovery-oriented practice, trauma-informed care, housing-first principles, and the broader systems related to mental health, substance use, homelessness, and community supports. The candidate should have excellent communication, relationship-building, facilitation, mentorship, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.
*An eligibility list may be maintained for up to six months. Eligible applicants may be offered a casual position.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
