About the job
In this role, you will:
- provide advice, supervision and technical direction to service providers and team staff on the production of legal surveys
- schedule and manage service provider assignments and participate on teams as a survey expert
- consult with various stakeholders and agencies to assess and resolve complex problems and exchange information
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
- You must be licensed as an Ontario Land Surveyor by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors.
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical knowledge
You have:
- knowledge of theories, principles and production of legal surveys and plans, federal and provincial statutes and regulations to plan, supervise and direct the production of legal surveys
- knowledge of survey equipment and software such as total stations, data collectors, global positioning receivers, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Light Detection and Ranging (LDAR) systems, Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (RPAS), sonar, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and high-tech precise levels to carry out survey work
- knowledge of policies, procedures, standards and statutes and regulations related to highway jurisdiction, land registration, expropriation, acquisition and disposal of property
- knowledge of, and experience with, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (e.g., applicable rules while working along busy transportation corridors) to ensure ministry staff and consultant work is performed in compliance with the Act, its regulations, and the safety policies and procedures of the ministry
Project management skills
You have:
- project management skills to plan, organize and manage the work of staff and consultants, and assess completeness and acceptability of work assignments
Communication, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills
You have:
- oral and written communication skills to communicate with internal and external clients, and contractors; to develop ministry survey standards, procedures and guidelines; to prepare service provider acquisition documents; and to present accurate information and testimony on legal survey matters at board/court hearings
- analytical, and problem solving skills and sound judgement to deal with complex or problematic situations; to review and interpret survey evidence, statute and case law; and to research internal and external information sources to compile data necessary for survey projects
