Lead Java Engineer (Contract)

Employment Type: 6-Month Contract (Extension up to 1 year possible based on individual performance and business requirements.)

Role Summary

We are looking for a Lead Java Engineer who thrives in ambiguous environments, enjoys building scalable platforms from the ground up, and delivers high-quality solutions at speed. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with strong architectural ownership, where you will design scalable systems while actively contributing to development. You will work at the intersection of backend engineering, edge computing, and AI/ML platforms, partnering closely with Data Science teams to build the foundation for trust-signal processing and machine learning inference.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop end-to-end trust-signal processing solutions, including edge detection, ingestion APIs, processing pipelines, storage, and downstream integrations. Build scalable backend services using Java Spring Boot, including APIs, data processing pipelines, and core platform services. Architect edge-layer solutions across CDN and edge-computing platforms for low-latency signal capture and processing. Design secure integrations with third-party identity and trust providers using JWT validation, public-key caching, and deterministic signal ingestion. Develop platform capabilities that enable ML inference, including feature pipelines, structured data layers, and model registry integrations. Drive architecture and technology decisions across AWS infrastructure, storage, observability, reliability, and governance. Collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, and Engineering teams while rapidly prototyping and delivering production-ready solutions.

Required Qualifications

8+ years of experience building scalable distributed systems. Proven experience building greenfield applications and taking platforms from 0 to 1. Strong system design and architectural skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving environments with high ownership.

Required Skills

Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Microservices, and Event-Driven Architecture. Experience building AI/ML inference platforms, including data normalization, feature pipelines, or model-serving integrations. Hands-on experience with AWS (Compute, Storage, Networking, IAM). Experience with Edge Computing technologies such as Edge Workers, CDN Functions, Lambda@Edge, or similar platforms. Proficiency using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, LLM-powered workflows, or agentic coding assistants. Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript for edge runtimes; Python experience is a plus.

Preferred Skills

Identity and security technologies such as JWT, JWS, OAuth 2.0, PKI, or token verification. Databricks or similar AI/Data platforms. Observability tools including distributed tracing, structured logging, and monitoring dashboards. Experience building multi-party integration platforms or network services. Open-source contributions or technical community involvement.
