Qualifications

MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• Masters degree in a related study area with two years = directly-related experience.

OR

• Bachelors degree in a related discipline with five years = directly-related experience.

OR

• Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with six years = directly-related experience.

EXPIERENCE:

• Experience working in a technical support or applied technology environment, including hands-on setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of specialized equipment (e.g., simulation systems, 3D printers, or assistive/rehabilitation technologies)
• Experience supervising or coordinating technical staff, including assigning work, supporting day-to-day operations, and contributing to performance feedback or development
• Experience working with faculty, researchers, or program teams to support teaching, lab, or research activities, including coordinating equipment use and responding to diverse user needs
• An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• A general knowledge of University of Manitoba, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and College of Rehabilitation Sciences policies, regulation, programs and procedures is preferred.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Oversees setup, operation, and maintenance of specialized equipment, including 3D printing systems, simulation technologies, and electronic systems within smart suite environments.
• Manages lifecycle of equipment (procurement input, inventory tracking, maintenance schedules, upgrades, and decommissioning).
• Ensures equipment readiness for teaching, research, and clinical simulation activities.
• Resolve technical problems with the systems and equipment through collaboration with faculty, technical manuals, or with vendor technical support.
• Leads the management and maintenance of the power mobility wheelchair fleet, ensuring safety, functionality, and availability.
• Provides advanced troubleshooting and technical support for a wide range of research and instructional technologies.
• Acts as an escalation point for complex technical/equipment issues.
• Supports researchers in the procurement, storage, maintenance, and effective use of new and emerging equipment and technologies.
• Maintain a high-level understanding of equipment operation and maintenance.
• Coordinate with vendors/installers to provide access for maintenance, installation, or repairs.
• Implement innovative technical solutions to meet evolving program needs.
• Collaborates with faculty and staff to pilot and integrate emerging tools and technologies.
• Assists faculty in the identification of equipment and supplies required for program delivery. Makes recommendations as to the appropriate use of simulation resources as well as options available to support meeting learning objectives and ensure that classroom/lab setup requirements are documented for future sessions.
• Works closely with faculty, researchers, and administrative staff to understand and support technical requirements across the college.
• Provides consultative support for technology-enabled teaching and research activities.
• Develop documentation, guidelines, and best practices for equipment and technology use.
• Provides day-to-day supervision, guidance, and task coordination for technical support staff (e.g., Class Techs)
• Establish workflows and priorities to ensure efficient service delivery.
• Initiate correspondence and appropriate work orders for facility repairs/maintenance, as needed and in communication with Class Tech’s and Administrative Services & Operations Manager.
• Work closely with the Administrative Services & Operations Manager to ensure that daily classroom set-up and equipment requests are met.
• Act as a back up to the Class Tech staff when needed.
• May be required to preform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
