About the role
Our Transmission group is currently looking to add a Small Tools Labourer / Repair Mechanic to our growing team, based out of our Headingley, MB warehouse.
Reporting to the Small Tools Program Lead, we are seeking a mechanically inclined and detail-oriented individual to support day-to-day warehouse operations. This is a versatile, hands-on role that combines shipping and receiving, small tool testing and maintenance, and mechanical repair work on small engines and hydraulic pumps — playing a key part in keeping our field crews equipped and productive.
Duties and Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving
- Receive incoming shipments of tools, parts, and equipment; verify against packing slips and purchase orders and maintain accurate inventory records and tool tracking systems
- Prepare and package outgoing shipments to field crews and job sites; organize and maintain warehouse storage to ensure tools and parts are easy to locate
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely
Electrical Tool Testing & Maintenance
- Inspect, test, and tag electrical hand and power tools to ensure they meet safety standards; identify damaged or unsafe tools and remove them from service
- Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs on power tools and maintain records of tool testing, certifications, and service history
Small Engine & Hydraulic Pump Repair
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair small gas-powered engines including generators, compactors, pumps, and saws; service hydraulic pumps and related components, identifying leaks, worn seals, and pressure issues
- Perform preventative maintenance on a rotating schedule, source replacement parts, coordinate with vendors as needed, and maintain accurate repair records for each piece of equipment
Requirements
- Previous experience in a warehouse, shop, or trades environment
- Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with small engines and/or hydraulic systems
- Comfortable using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment
- Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and email
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Valid driver's licence
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
- Small engine repair certificate or related trades training
- Forklift certification
- Experience working in a construction or utility environment
- Familiarity with electrical tool testing standards (e.g., CSA, ESA)
- WHMIS and First Aid certification
