Provide after-hours, weekend, and statutory-holiday screening and emergency child protection coverage, responding to allegations that children or youth need protection and issues involving children or youth in care. Job details

This position will provide screening and after-hours, inclusive of weekends, and statutory holidays coverage for all protection services of the Agency. It is an emergency service designed to meet urgent service needs and crises that require immediate attention. The Child Well Being Worker while on After Hours will respond to all allegations of children/youth in need of protection and to issues related to children/youth in care. The mandated Worker is responsible for providing the protection of children by performing duties as outlined in the responsibilities set out below, in accordance with provisions of the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, First Nation Standards, Ministry Regulations, Standards, and Policy Directives. The Child Well Being Worker will be scheduled to complete screening duties in conjunction with the Service Supervisor taking initial calls to the agency and processing according to provisions of the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, First Nation Standards, Ministry Regulations, Standards, and Policy Directives. Qualifications Must possess an accredited college diploma in a related field of study. Preference will be given to those who possess a Bachelor of Social Work Honors Degree or a degree in a related field of study. At least two (2) years' work experience in the delivery of direct, frontline, social service programming targeting children, youth, and families. Experience within an Anishinaabe organization and with Anishinaabe families is preferred. Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and court preparation. Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ontario Child Protection Standards, and related legislation. Follows the Agency's existing policies, procedures, and precedents but will become creative/innovative with problem-solving skills and the use of community resources. Knowledge of the Differential Response Model for Child Protection in Ontario as well as the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ministry standards and guidelines, and Agency policies and procedures. Understand social casework principles as they relate to the assessment of family functioning and understanding of the dynamics accompanying intervention with involuntary or hostile clients. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Work Environment The traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time to time there can be exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting. The role also requires knowledge of child protection legislation and standards, strong communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to assess family functioning and work with involuntary or hostile clients; experience with Anishinaabe organizations and families is preferred.
