(Kontur) is a full-service Geotechnical Consulting Engineering and Material’s Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, and Soil) Firm, that provides engineering consultation, construction field reviews, and construction materials testing, for a wide array of projects and clients throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Kontur’s foundation is built on quality people doing great work in a rewarding environment. Kontur’s Geotechnical Division is growing and is seeking a Geotechnical Technician to become part of Kontur’s team. This position will be based in, Port Coquitlam, BC. The ideal candidate will have a passion for applied sciences, enjoy working in both field and office environments, and demonstrate a strong commitment to professional growth within the geotechnical engineering and construction industry. The successful candidate will be a team-player, have a keen interest and proven ability to work in a fast- paced and continually evolving environment. Job Responsibilities will include, but not limited to: · Coordinating and executing geotechnical exploration assignments including test pits, boreholes, and site reconnaissance programs; · Providing technical services in field, laboratory, and office environment; · Performing geotechnical field review assignments on construction projects; · Conducting on site testing of various materials on construction sites, compaction testing and testing of concrete and asphalt; · Carrying out laboratory testing of construction materials to applicable standards; · Assisting with data compilation, drafting, preparation of figures, and technical reporting; · Preparing site plans, figures and drawings using AutoCAD and related software; · Accountability for quality of product including reporting and construction reviews; and, · Communicating with clients and sub-consultants and other stake holders as required. Job Requirements: · Geotechnical or Civil Engineering Technician/Technology Diploma from a recognized Technology program; · Must have a reliable vehicle in good working condition, properly insured for business use, and a valid driver’s license (mileage allowance will be provided); · Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills; · Excellent written/verbal communication skills and strong leadership qualities; · Must have an ability to lift and control weights up to 22 kgs/50 lbs.; · Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. · Must be available for shift work (day/night/weekends). · Willing to work extended and irregular hours when necessary; · Must be available to travel and work away from the main office/laboratory of extended periods. · Must be available to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, when safe to do so. · Excellent computer skills and basic knowledge of engineering software applications, including Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Google Earth, and Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint. Knowledge of Rocscience and other geotechnical software would be an asset; Hourly wages will be commensurate to experience. This position is also eligible to participate in Kontur’s Group Benefits, performance incentives, and Continued Professional Development plans/policies. Phone and Vehicle allowances will be provided.
