Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Insurance Defence Associate with approximately 4–7 years of relevant litigation experience to join its team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a lawyer who has developed a strong foundation in insurance defence litigation and is looking to continue building a sophisticated practice in a collaborative firm environment. The Role The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of complex insurance defence matters, with a particular focus on professional liability claims. Depending on the candidate’s experience and interests, there may also be an opportunity to work on professional regulatory matters. The associate will have meaningful responsibility for files and will work closely with experienced counsel on matters at various stages of the litigation process. Responsibilities may include: Managing and assisting with professional liability and other insurance defence files; Drafting pleadings, motions, mediation materials, legal opinions and other litigation documents; Conducting examinations for discovery, mediations and motions; Developing litigation strategy and providing practical, responsive advice to clients; Working with insurers, insured professionals, experts and other stakeholders; Assisting with hearings, trials and other contested proceedings; and Potentially working on professional regulatory and disciplinary matters. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: Approximately 4–7 years of post-call litigation experience; Experience in insurance defence litigation, with professional liability experience considered a strong asset; Strong written and oral advocacy skills; Sound judgment and the ability to independently manage files and competing priorities; Excellent analytical, organizational and client-service skills; and An interest in continuing to develop expertise in professional liability litigation and, potentially, professional regulation. This opportunity would suit a lawyer who enjoys substantive litigation work, is comfortable taking ownership of files and is looking to further develop their advocacy skills alongside experienced litigators.
