Project Accountant – Construction Surrey, BC | $75,000–$90,000 + Profit Sharing MatchBox Consulting Group is excited to partner with a Surrey-based general contractor to recruit a Project Accountant. The company builds commercial and multi-family projects across BC, from complex interiors for national brands and institutional clients to ground-up construction. With 80% of its work coming from repeat clients, it has built a business around lasting relationships and good project delivery. This role offers responsibility for a portfolio of projects, direct access to the Director of Finance, and a close working relationship with the construction team. You’ll manage project accounting from setup through closeout, working alongside another Project Accountant and helping improve processes as the business grows. The Role Set up project budgets, contracts and commitments in Procore and Acumatica. Prepare monthly progress draws and follow up on outstanding payments. Review subcontractor invoices, apply holdbacks and coordinate timely payments. Maintain current WorkSafeBC clearances, insurance and contract documentation. Review job costs and coding, reconcile budgets and prepare monthly cost reports. Work with Project Managers on variances, cost and revenue forecasts, and potential overruns. Manage financial closeout, including final accounts and holdback releases. Contribute to improvements in project accounting procedures and reporting. What You Bring You have five or more years of project accounting experience in commercial construction, ideally with a general contractor, and have managed the accounting for multiple projects. You’re comfortable working directly with project teams, asking questions when the numbers don’t add up and keeping billing and reporting on schedule. You’ll Also Bring Hands-on Procore experience, including commitments, subcontractor invoices, change events and budgets. Working knowledge of construction accounting and BC Builders Lien Act holdback requirements. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing project deadlines. Clear communication with Project Managers, subcontractors and suppliers. Experience with Acumatica would be an asset. Accounting or finance education would be an asset; progress toward a CPA designation is welcome. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and available to work from the Surrey office four days per week. What’s Offered $75,000–$90,000 base salary, depending on experience. Company profit sharing and comprehensive benefits. One work-from-home day per week and flexible hours. Support for training, courses and professional development. A close-knit team with regular manager support, staff lunches and an annual retreat. The opportunity to influence how the project accounting function develops. If you know construction accounting and want a role where you can take ownership of your projects and work closely with the people building them, apply through MatchBox Consulting Group.
