Depending on a candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, and prior experience, a higher hourly wage may be offered. As a Deli & Hot Food Clerk, you’ll play a key role in delivering an exceptional customer experience by preparing, slicing, cooking, and merchandising a variety of deli and hot food items. You’ll help maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department while ensuring product quality and food safety standards are met. Our deli and hot food team is essential to the success of Metro, and we’re looking for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy providing excellent customer service. What You’ll Do Receive and organize deli and hot food products in coolers and prep areas. Slice, package, and label meats, cheeses, and deli items to customer specifications. Prepare and cook hot food items following recipes and food safety standards. Stock and replenish deli and hot food displays, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO). Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing displays. Monitor product quality and remove items that do not meet standards. Ensure proper food handling, storage, and temperature control at all times. Assist customers with product selection, recommendations, and inquiries. Sanitize equipment, utensils, and work areas regularly. Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines. Monitor inventory levels, perform counts, and report discrepancies. Ensure accurate pricing, labelling, and signage. Support promotions and assist other departments as required. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Deli product knowledge and merchandising experience considered an asset Customer service-driven Strong Communication Skills Able to stand for prolonged periods Must be available to work flexible shifts which may include nights and weekends The responsibilities and relationships assigned to this role may change as is necessary to achieve Metro's business objectives.
