Job summary Our Winnipeg office is looking for an experienced Paralegal to join our Wills & Estates team. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task and prioritize workload, pay attention to detail, and have excellent organizational, communication, and written skills. The Wills & Estates Paralegal will work cooperatively with the lawyers in the Estate Planning & Administration Group to help guide personal representatives in the process of estate administration. Responsibilities include: * Gathering data required for the process of Estate Administration * Ensuring compliance with The King’s Bench Rules with respect to billing and service of Form 74AA and other documentation on personal representatives and beneficiaries * Preparing Requests for Probate and Administration and ancillary documentation * Assisting in the process of realizing the assets of the Estate or payment of the liabilities of the Estate * Preparing correspondence including, without limitation, retainer letters, reporting letters and letters providing the personal representatives’ accounting to beneficiaries * Preparing interim or final releases with respect to distributions from the Estate * Drafting Wills, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives * Assisting in Passing of Accounts and litigious matters ancillary to Estate Administration * Receiving calls from prospective clients and, in case of a promising lead, referring the matter to a lawyer within the Group Qualifications include: * Post-secondary diploma in a Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal Program from a recognized college Program * Working knowledge of provincial laws and terminology * Experience with drafting legal documents and correspondence * Experience in wills and estates required * Excellent organizational skills * Able to manage files from start to finish * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Able to work independently and as part of a team * Ability to liaise with a variety of people * Good computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite * Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure We offer: * A competitive salary including individual performance bonus * Flexible benefit plans for dental, health and wellness benefits * Access to group savings plans and investment options * Earned Days Off Program * Growth and development opportunities * Mentorship and support * Ongoing job-specific training and opportunities for professional development * A positive and inclusive work environment What’s it like to work at MLT Aikins?
