Working under the applicable Local 47 union agreement, you'll gain hands-on experience installing HVAC and ductwork systems on some of Ottawa's most exciting commercial, institutional, and industrial construction projects. Role Summary The Sheet Metal Apprentice supports the installation, fabrication, and assembly of sheet metal and HVAC systems under the guidance of Journeypersons, Forepersons, and Supervisors. This role provides valuable hands-on training while helping project teams deliver safe, high-quality work. Success in this role means developing technical trade skills, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, and progressing successfully through the apprenticeship program. Duties and Responsibilities * Assist in the fabrication of HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems. * Measure, cut, assemble, and install materials under supervision. * Read and interpret drawings and specifications with guidance from experienced tradespeople. * Handle materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently. * Participate in safety meetings and comply with all health and safety requirements. * Maintain a clean and organized work area. * Learn trade practices, building codes, and installation standards. * Work collaboratively with Journeypersons, Forepersons, and other trades. * Attend required apprenticeship training and maintain progress through the apprenticeship program. Must Haves * Registered Sheet Metal Apprentice (any level) or willingness to register as an apprentice. * Strong interest in learning the sheet metal trade. * Commitment to workplace safety. * Positive attitude and strong work ethic. * Ability to work effectively within a team environment. * Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift materials as required. * Reliable transportation to our east end shop * Willingness and ability to work evening shifts. Nice to Haves * Previous construction or trades experience. * Local 47 union membership. * Experience using hand and power tools. * WHMIS certification. * Fall Protection or Elevated Work Platform training. * Mechanical aptitude and ability to read basic construction drawings. Position Details This is an New position.
