Construction Manager / Senior Mechanical Project Manager Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: $120,000–$140,000 annually Overview: MT Talent Solutions is proud to partner with an established and growing mechanical contractor specializing in commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-residential construction projects throughout Southwestern Ontario. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects, a team of over 70 employees, and continued business growth, our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Manager (or Construction Manager depending on experience) to join their leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled mechanical construction professional who enjoys taking ownership of complex, multi-million-dollar projects while providing leadership and strategic direction to construction operations. The successful candidate will oversee projects from award through completion, with direct involvement in estimating, purchasing, scheduling, financial management, field operations, and team development. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an accountable, solutions-oriented professional who is equally comfortable managing projects, negotiating change orders, collaborating with field teams, and driving operational improvements. As the organization continues to expand, this position offers significant opportunity for continued career advancement into a more senior construction leadership role. Here's what you'll do: Independently manage commercial, institutional, and industrial mechanical construction projects from contract award through successful completion. Oversee project budgets, schedules, labour productivity, procurement, subcontractors, and overall project profitability. Review mechanical drawings, specifications, estimates, and contractual requirements to develop effective project execution strategies. Prepare project schedules, manpower forecasts, purchasing plans, and financial projections. Identify, estimate, price, and negotiate change orders, additional work, and contract revisions. Complete material takeoffs, labour estimates, and detailed change order submissions, ensuring all additional work is properly documented and recovered. Review tender estimates, identify potential risks or discrepancies, and support estimating activities for new construction opportunities. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to project managers, estimators, coordinators, and site foremen. Monitor the financial performance of assigned projects and support oversight of other projects within the construction division. Work closely with ownership and senior leadership to improve operational efficiencies, project execution, and overall profitability. Oversee purchasing activities, including supplier negotiations, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and long-lead equipment procurement. Monitor project costs, labour budgets, subcontractor commitments, cash flow, and projected margins. Prepare and review monthly financial forecasts, progress billings, schedules of values, and project cost reports. Maintain a regular presence on active construction sites, collaborating with foremen and tradespeople to ensure project requirements are clearly communicated and executed. Coordinate manpower, equipment, subcontractors, and material deliveries to maintain project schedules and productivity. Attend construction meetings and maintain positive working relationships with general contractors, consultants, suppliers, clients, and field personnel. Proactively identify and resolve construction challenges, scheduling conflicts, deficiencies, and technical issues. Ensure compliance with safety standards, contractual obligations, and project quality requirements. Oversee commissioning, deficiency completion, warranty documentation, and project closeout activities. Establish clear expectations, promote accountability, and support continuous improvement across construction operations. Here's what you'll need to be successful: Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial, institutional, or industrial mechanical construction, with a strong background in plumbing and/or HVAC systems. Minimum 5 years of progressive project management experience, including estimating and managing complex mechanical construction projects. Proven experience independently managing multi-million-dollar construction projects. Strong technical knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal, hydronic heating, and related mechanical systems. Demonstrated expertise in mechanical estimating, material takeoffs, labour costing, change order management, and contract negotiations. Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, procurement, project scheduling, and cost forecasting. Experience managing project budgets, financial reporting, labour productivity, and overall project profitability. Proven ability to lead and mentor project managers, coordinators, foremen, and construction teams. Strong computer proficiency, particularly Microsoft Excel and construction project management software. Excellent communication, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. A strategic mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for operational improvement and business growth. A hands-on, proactive leadership style with a high level of professionalism, accountability, and integrity. Ability to manage competing priorities, make sound decisions, and take ownership of project outcomes. Valid Ontario driver's license and willingness to travel to construction sites as required. Preferred Qualifications: Licensed tradesperson, Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Project Management Professional (PMP), or relevant construction management education. Experience managing large-scale mechanical construction projects exceeding $5 million. Experience mentoring and/or supervising unionized tradespeople. Familiarity with Ontario construction contracts, regulations, and the Construction Act.
