Job summary

The incumbent is responsible for performing general house maintenance, including repairs to plumbing, appliances, and building structures. They will also manage inventory and ensure all equipment is maintained and operational according to safety standards.

Title: General House Maintenance Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor, Housing Superintendent Revised: June 12, 2023 Type of Employment: Full time, permanent, 6-days a week, potentially extended hours depending on workload and priorities; which could include Sundays. Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities: * Installing/moving appliances, furniture. * Painting, maintaining walls, windows, doors. * Replacement of parts/installations of sinks, faucets, showers, drains. * Repair and maintenance of heaters and appliances. * Repairs to piping, minor plumbing projects. * Installing/repairing cabinets, countertops. * Possible carpentry projects. * Must have good coordination and manual dexterity. * Must be mechanically inclined. * Knowledge of repairing and replacing defective parts. * Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks. * Perform preventative maintenance. * Repair and lubricate machines and equipment as needed. * Sets up and operates machine and adjusts controls that regulate operational functions to ensure conformance to specifications. * Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools. * Bolt parts together, such as side and deck plates, jaw plates, to basic assembly of units * Perform general maintenance and keep buildings at desired cosmetics level. * Management of inventory of supplies and tools. * Other ad hoc duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Mechanical abilities in order to keep all aspects of housing in working order. * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. * Ability to communicate any machinery breakdown, material concerns or shortages to maintenance, production supervisor or manager. Physical Abilities: * Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time. * Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs. * Must be able to lift material regularly up to 14 kg / 30 lbs; and occasionally up to 23 kg / 50lbs * Must be able to climb stairs and stand on feet for an extended period of time. * Must be able to work in a temperature-controlled environment of approximately 13 ˚C / 55 ˚F.
