About the Role Our Finance team works closely with Operations, Culinary, Events, and Sales to support day-to-day business decisions. As we continue to grow, we are strengthening our financial systems, processes, and reporting. The Controller will lead MCG’s day-to-day finance and accounting function, including financial reporting, month-end close, cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and internal controls. Working closely with the COO and department leaders, you will provide financial information and analysis to support operational and strategic decisions. You will also lead and develop the Finance team and identify opportunities to improve our systems, processes, and use of technology. Responsibilities Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and ensure accurate and timely financial statements and management reporting. Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management, including AR, AP, and payment planning. Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling forecasts in partnership with the COO and department leaders. Prepare budget-to-actual reporting and financial analysis to support business and operational decisions. Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls and accounting processes. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, reconciliations, and the general ledger. Ensure compliance with tax and government filing requirements, working with external accountants, the CRA, and financial institutions as required. Lead, coach, and develop the Finance team while establishing clear expectations around accuracy, accountability, and timelines. Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes, including identifying opportunities to use technology and AI to improve efficiency and reporting. Partner with operational leaders to provide clear, practical financial information and support informed decision-making. What a Successful Candidate Looks Like You are an experienced accounting and finance professional who is comfortable owning the day-to-day finance function and bringing structure, accuracy, and accountability to a growing business. You will likely bring: Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting, including month-end close, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and general ledger management. Working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, CRA requirements, and government filings. Hands-on knowledge of cash-flow forecasting, working capital, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. The ability to build, strengthen, and maintain effective financial controls and accounting processes. Experience leading, coaching, and developing a Finance team, with a focus on clear ownership and accountability. Strong communication skills and the ability to translate financial information into clear, practical insights for operational leaders. A practical and process-oriented mindset, with an interest in improving systems, reducing errors, and finding more efficient ways of working. Comfort working in an operationally complex environment, such as a business with multiple locations, inventory, labour-intensive operations, or seasonal fluctuations.
