New Afton Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site. About The Role Schedule: 7 on 7 off, rotating days and nights, 11-hour shifts Position Reports To: Underground Shift Supervisor Position Overview New Afton is seeking highly motivated individuals with considerable mechanical aptitude to join our Underground Miner Training Program. This opportunity includes a structured six-month training program that combines classroom learning with hands on experience, providing an entry level pathway for candidates with no prior mining experience. Upon successful completion of the training program, employees will continue their careers as Underground Miners at New Afton. Underground mining is a physically demanding and rewarding career involving equipment operation, underground infrastructure construction and maintenance, and a variety of tasks essential to safe and productive operations. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in starting and building a long-term career in mining. Key Responsibilities Successfully complete training program requirements; Work together as a team to ensure safe operation while striving to meet operational targets; Operate underground mining equipment in accordance with training, procedures, and safety standards; and Perform underground construction and mine support activities, including framing, concrete work, ground support installation, material handling, and other labour duties Qualifications Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; Valid driver’s license, wi thout learner’s res trictions and access to personal transportation; This entry level program focuses on developing individuals who are new to the mining industry, with no previous mining experience; Minimum 1 year of experience in a safety focused industrial environment, such as construction (civil, commercial, or residential), forestry, agriculture, milling, oil and gas, or other heavy industry settings; Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience safely operating heavy equipment or agricultural machinery; Considerable mechanical and cognitive aptitude; and Physically capable of performing the demands of the role , including repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs and working in an underground environment. Other Requirements Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including: Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements Compensation The annual salary during the training program is $75,000. Upon successful completion of the training program, the annual salary increases to $82,800. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant. Requirements
