Job summary
Nexans Fergus classifies all direct manufacturing personnel that run production machines as ‘Machine Operators’. Machine Operators are responsible for all aspects of running production equipment for the purposes of manufacturing electrical cables. They are responsible for the following: Reading design recipes and cable drawings Selection of appropriate tooling, and raw materials per the design Cleaning of equipment Set-up of tooling and materials in preparation for a production run Quality checks of in-process and finished goods parts. Checks include visual checks for surface texture, proper winding of cables on a spool, checking for physical defects on cables and measurements that include using the following tools: Diameter tapes Vernier Calipers Micrometers Pin Gauges Microscopes with dial micrometers Precision scales Specific Gravity scales Shadow Graphs Tensile testing Supervision of equipment while running product, including: Decision making regarding when product meets the quality requirements per the design after a startup Flagging non-conforming product when required Feeding raw materials into the machine(s) Taking away finished goods from the machine(s) Use of walk-behind pallet jacks, standup reach trucks or forklifts as required Use of overhead cranes Labelling of in-process and finished goods, including verifying that the order number, part number, description and quantity are correct Autonomous maintenance tasks including: Filter changes Oil reservoir top-ups Greasing Checking bearings, sheaves and rollers
