As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.” In 2025-2026, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021). Teachers who are hired or recalled into new positions will be required to participate in a New Teacher training if they have not already done so. Effective Dates: 08/01/2026 to 12/08/2026 Learning Support Teacher Co-ordination of IPPs for caseload of students with high needs; Programming support for students with a variety of needs, including skills-based instruction, executive functioning, enrichment, etc., as a key member of the teams which support students in the school; Supporting classroom teachers & specialist teachers through co-teaching, coaching, mentoring, resources and training; Intensive, direct teaching intervention with students as per their identified needs (per the School Planning Team, or the Student Planning Team) Liaison with classroom teachers; Integration of programming support into the classroom/school setting; Assessment, evaluation, and reporting on individual student progress as a key member of the Student Planning Team; Development and implementation of interventions with the Student Planning Team and the Teacher Support Team (including classroom teachers and parents); Curriculum Support as determined by the School Planning Team and the Teacher Support Team; and Other Learning Support duties as applicable. Essential Requirements: Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia; Experience working as a Learning Support Teacher; Excellent classroom and student management skills; Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning (eg. Mimio, Google Classrooms, etc); Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies. Major/Minor in English Demonstrated competency in the following areas: formal, individualized student assessment; excellent oral and written communication skills, including report-writing; in-depth familiarity with a wide range of exceptionalities, learning challenges, sensory deficits, disabling conditions, etc. and their implications for successful educational programming; ability to work as a team member in all phases of educational programming; knowledge and understanding of all pertinent provincial and SRCE policies pertaining to the instruction of students with special needs; Skills in communicating and working in collaborative partnerships for programming; Ability to work closely with Teacher Assistants (TAs) to oversee and ensure appropriate educational programming; Demonstrated ability to work in a variety of teaching models (group, individual, co-teaching, learning centre); Training and experience in the development and implementation of IPPs; Experience in working with children and youth and with special needs; Experience in supporting accessible learning (eg. universal design for learning); Demonstrate effective use of a variety of Assistive Technologies for students with special needs. The Learning Support Teacher will coordinate Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and provide direct teaching interventions for students with high needs. They will also support classroom teachers through co-teaching, coaching, and the implementation of inclusive programming strategies.

Candidates must hold a valid Nova Scotia teacher certification and possess a major or minor in English. Experience in learning support, student assessment, and the application of assistive technologies is required.
