Due to continued growth and increasing U.S. tax client volumes, the firm is seeking an experienced U.S. Tax Manager to join its team on a full-time basis. This position is based in Canada but will focus primarily on U.S. taxation. The successful candidate will be an experienced tax professional with strong knowledge of U.S. personal and business tax returns who can immediately contribute through technical review, staff support, workflow management, and client service. This is primarily a review and technical oversight role rather than a high-volume preparation position. The U.S. Tax Manager will work closely with the firm's owner, tax preparers, and review staff to ensure work is accurate, compliant, and completed on time. Key Responsibilities Review U.S. personal income tax returns, including Form 1040 Review U.S. corporate and business tax returns Review Forms 1120, 1120-S, and 1065 Review U.S. tax work prepared by junior and intermediate staff Identify technical issues, errors, and potential tax planning opportunities Provide technical guidance to tax preparers and junior reviewers Research U.S. federal and state tax matters as required Respond to U.S. tax-related client questions and inquiries Assist with more complex U.S. personal and business tax matters Support tax planning and compliance for U.S. individuals and businesses Assist with managing workflow and deadlines across U.S. tax engagements Ensure files meet the firm's quality control and compliance standards Mentor and support junior tax staff Help reduce partner workload by taking ownership of technical reviews and client matters Support the continued growth of the firm's U.S. tax practice Team Structure The Successful Candidate Will Work Closely With Firm Owner / Managing Partner U.S. and Canadian tax preparers Existing review staff Seasonal tax staff during busy periods The position will primarily focus on technical review, problem solving, staff guidance, and managing U.S. tax work rather than completing high volumes of basic tax preparation. Qualifications Required Strong professional experience in U.S. taxation Public accounting experience working with U.S. tax returns Experience reviewing U.S. personal income tax returns Experience reviewing U.S. corporate and business tax returns Strong knowledge of Form 1040 Strong knowledge of Forms 1120, 1120-S, and 1065 Strong understanding of U.S. federal tax regulations Ability to research and resolve technical U.S. tax issues Experience Reviewing Work Prepared By Other Tax Professionals Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to manage multiple tax files and deadlines Preferred CPA, U.S. CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or equivalent professional experience Previous Tax Manager, Tax Reviewer, or senior-level public accounting experience Experience supervising or mentoring tax preparers Experience with complex U.S. individual and business tax matters Knowledge of U.S. state taxation Experience working with U.S. clients while based in Canada Experience with Canadian/U.S. cross-border tax matters would be an asset Familiarity with cloud-based tax preparation and accounting software Technology The Firm Utilizes CCH tax solutions Cloud-based tax preparation software QuickBooks Secure client portal systems Work Environment Full-time, year-round opportunity Primarily in-office position in North York Collaborative and supportive office culture Four weeks of paid vacation Flexible environment for family and personal commitments Free on-site parking Stable and growing tax practice Opportunity to work directly with the firm's owner and senior team Opportunity to take ownership of the firm's U.S. tax review function Long-term growth potential as the U.S. tax practice expands Qualifications Summary Candidates should have strong U.S. public accounting tax experience, particularly reviewing U.S. individual and business tax returns. Candidates must be based in Canada and able to work from the firm's North York office.
