Purpose: The Yard Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of materials to support production, shipping, and receiving operations. This position ensures accurate material movement, maintains yard organization, and contributes to operational excellence through teamwork and a commitment to safety. Responsibilities · Demonstrate conduct consistent with Nucor Rebar Fabrication’s vision and values. · Safely operate forklifts and shunt trucks to move materials within the yard · Unload and load trailers, ensuring customer orders are accurately staged and prepared for shipment · Receive, stage, and organize reinforcing steel bars to support production and shipping operations · Organize and maintain the cleanliness of the yard, ensuring dunnage and other materials are picked up and disposed of properly · Ensure accurate and timely processing of all shipping and receiving documentation · Effectively communicate with the shipping and receiving departments to coordinate orders and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner · Assist with general yard operations by organizing materials, preparing shipments, and supporting production activities as required · Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor Qualifications · Proven experience operating forklifts and shunt trucks in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial yard environment · Strong understanding of yard organization and material handling best practices · Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and other departments · Experience in the steel industry is considered an asset · Forklift certification is considered an asset · Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a safe and work environment Special Demands · Overtime hours may be required · Must be able to work any shift · Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions · Must be familiar with, and adhere to, shop safety policies and procedures Physical Demands · Frequent heavy lifting is required · Working conditions can be noisy/dusty/hot/cold Use of AI in Our Hiring Process: Our recruitment team may use AI-assisted tools to help identify and review candidate applications based on job-related requirements and qualifications.
