Job details

We have been retained by our client, a Canadian Multi-Family Office serving ultra-high-net-worth families. The Principal will serve as a leader on a specialized team acting as the trusted advisor for ultra-high-net-worth clients. This individual will work directly with clients, providing expert guidance on complex financial matters, with a primary focus on holistic wealth planning, tax strategy, and special projects. In addition to directly advising clients, the Principal will assist with the firm's growth efforts through prospecting new clients, cultivating a network of trusted advisors, and participating in events as an ambassador of the firm. Core Responsibilities • Serving as a relationship manager for ultra-high-net-worth clients, often taking ownership of the client relationship. • Leading complex planning initiatives, with a primary emphasis on financial planning, tax strategy, estates, and investments, ensuring proactive and holistic management of client needs. • Exercising sound judgment and maintaining strict discretion when handling sensitive information and client-related matters. • Contributing to the firm's growth initiatives by actively participating in business development and prospecting efforts to support new client acquisition. • Overseeing and cultivating relationships with external advisors, including tax professionals, investment advisors, legal counsel, bankers, and insurance providers. • Developing and implementing tailored wealth strategies aligned with each client's goals, with a focus on long-term planning and wealth preservation. • Managing ongoing financial reporting requirements, delivering customized reports and insights that reflect the unique requirements of each client. • Coordinating accounting and tax compliance processes, working closely with accountants and lawyers to ensure accuracy and timeliness. • Fostering a collaborative team environment by actively supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, and contributing to collective problem solving. • Leading and mentoring junior team members (Associates and Analysts), providing continuous feedback, professional development support, and guidance to enhance performance and growth. Relevant Background and Experience • CPA or CFA designation with 10+ years of post-accreditation experience. CPA candidates must also hold a CFA or CIM and be eligible for registration as an Advising Representative with the applicable provincial securities commission. CFA candidates must additionally hold an advanced planning designation (e.g., CFP or TEP) or demonstrate advanced financial planning expertise. • Proven ability to lead complex planning engagements, work collaboratively with external professionals, and guide clients toward well-informed decisions. • Proven knowledge in the areas of financial planning (particularly tax planning) and investment strategy. • Skilled in managing a wide range of special projects with a pragmatic, solutions-driven approach. • A hands-on approach, willing to tackle projects of all sizes and contribute meaningfully at every level. • Strong project management skills, organization, and attention to detail. • Exceptional client relationship management skills, with high emotional intelligence (EQ) and the ability to build trust. • Demonstrated ability to identify, pursue, and leverage key relationships, converting targeted outreach into new client relationships and contributing to business growth. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly and confidently. • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving client issues. • Self-starter with a high level of initiative, capable of working independently while contributing to team success (including mentorship of junior staff). • Commitment to continuous learning, with a desire to develop specialized expertise and build a long-term career in the family office space. Formal Education Requirements • CPA + CFA or CIM, or CFA + advanced planning designation (CFP, TEP, etc.) or demonstrated expertise, is required.
