Job Description Job Title: Data Center Security Guard Department: Security / Facilities Reports To: Facility Manager Location: On site Job Type: Part-Time / Full-time Work Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (day/night rotation, including weekends and holidays) Job Summary The Data Center Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the facility, personnel, and critical IT infrastructure. This role involves strict access control, continuous monitoring of security systems, incident response, and comprehensive documentation. The position requires effective communication, administrative support, and structured shift handovers to maintain uninterrupted security operations in a high-security data center environment. Key Responsibilities Access Control & Monitoring Control and monitor entry/exit of employees, contractors, and visitors Verify identification, credentials, and access authorization Manage visitor registration and badge issuance Escort visitors and vendors in secure areas Surveillance & Patrol Monitor CCTV, alarm systems, and access control systems Conduct routine patrols of facility and perimeter Identify and report suspicious activity or risks Incident Response Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and emergencies Escalate issues to management or emergency services Secure affected areas and assist in investigations Documentation & Reporting Maintain Daily Activity Reports (DAR) Record incidents, access events, and irregular activities Maintain logs for visitors, equipment movement, and access control Shift Handover & Communication Conduct structured shift-to-shift handovers Communicate ongoing incidents, risks, and pending tasks Ensure logs and system updates are completed prior to handover Verify system status Administrative Support Process access requests (activation/deactivation) Support audits, compliance checks, and documentation Coordinate with security and facility teams Asset Protection & Safety Safeguard servers, equipment, and infrastructure Monitor loading docks and deliveries Enforce security policies and safety procedures Support emergency response and evacuation procedures Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid Security Guard License (Ontario or applicable region) Valid First Aid & CPR Certification Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, CCTV, access control systems) Experience in data center or critical infrastructure security (preferred) Requirements Strong attention to detail and observation skills Effective written and verbal communication Ability to maintain accurate documentation and reports Capability to perform patrol and administrative duties Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays Physical ability to stand/walk for extended periods and respond to emergencies
