Job details

WHO WE ARE: Peripheral is developing spatial intelligence, starting in live sports and entertainment. Our models generate spatial data, used for advanced sports analytics and immersive media experiences. We’re solving key research challenges in 3D computer vision, creating the foundations for the next generation of robotic perception and embodied intelligence. We’re backed by top investors, including Khosla Ventures, Inovia, Deloitte Ventures, Daybreak, and Entrepreneurs First, and working with some of the biggest names in sports. Our team includes engineers and researchers from leading technology companies and research institutions, and we’re building technology at the intersection of AI, graphics, and the future of live entertainment. We’re ambitious and looking to win. THE OPPORTUNITY: We're seeking an Embedded Systems Engineering Intern to support Peripheral's capture systems team as we scale our sensor suite and improve how we capture data. You'll get hands-on experience with sensor drivers, network infrastructure, and hardware design, working alongside engineers who own this system end to end. You'll contribute to real problems, like onboarding new sensors, improving system performance, or supporting hardware bring-up, under the guidance of engineers on the team. WHO YOU ARE: You're currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, and you're excited about embedded systems, the place where hardware and software meet. You have some experience with C++ or Python, and you're comfortable (or eager to get comfortable) working close to hardware, whether that's writing a driver, debugging over a serial connection, or reading a datasheet. You're detail-oriented and think ahead about what could go wrong with a system, and you're excited to learn how production-grade embedded systems are actually built and tested. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: * Support the development of sensor drivers, helping onboard new sensors under the guidance of the team. * Help investigate and debug firmware issues related to performance, timing, or communication between components. * Assist with research and testing of new sensors and hardware components being evaluated for the capture suite. * Support hardware bring-up and validation, including basic PCB-level debugging. * Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to understand how your work fits into the broader capture pipeline. REQUIREMENTS: * Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. * Some experience with C++ or Python, ideally in an embedded or systems context. * Foundational understanding of how computers interact with hardware (e.g., through coursework or personal projects). * Comfortable working hands-on with hardware, or eager to learn. * Candidates must have the legal right to work in Canada for the duration of the internship and be based in or willing to relocate to Toronto for an in-office role. At this time, we are unable to provide immigration sponsorship. NICE TO HAVE: * Experience with embedded Linux or RTOS environments. * Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, HTTP, TCP). * Experience building or debugging custom PCBs. * Familiarity with video encoding/decoding concepts (e.g., H.264, H.265, AV1). * Experience with time synchronization concepts (PTP/NTP) or multi-sensor systems. * Prior personal, coursework, or competition project involving embedded systems. WHY YOU'LL LOVE WORKING HERE: * High ownership of high-impact projects shaping the future of spatial intelligence and 3D media. * Mentorship from world-class engineers and researchers. * Unparalleled access to premier global sporting events and iconic venues. * Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO).
