Position:Seasonal Labourer/Equipment Operator (Snow Plow) – Multiple positions available Start Date:November 2026Employment Status:SeasonalReporting To:Roads ForepersonUnion Affiliation:Non-unionPosting Date:September 11, 2026Closing DateSeptember 28, 2026 at 8:30amPosition Summary:The Public Works Department requires Seasonal Labourer/Equipment Operators (snow plow) for the upcoming 2026/2027 winter season. The successful candidates will be assigned a shift and plow rotation operating out of the County’s public workshops. These shifts will commence in November 2026 and end in approximately March 2027. Multiple positions are available – apply now to join our team!Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for conducting general maintenance functions for public works operations, maintaining roads and bridges in good condition Required to respond to emergency requests, road closures Provides winter maintenance for specific portions of roads. Operates snow plow and sanding/salting trucks to remove ice and snow from roads Performs routine equipment maintenance/repair tasks such as changing vehicle fluids, fueling, greasing, etc. Inspects equipment on a regularly scheduled basis and reports any mechanical concerns to the Mechanic Forwarding public complaints regarding road conditions to Road Lead hand, Roads Foreperson, Operations Coordinator, Public Works Perform daily vehicle inspections/equipment logs Patrol roads to observe/ report winter road conditions, maintenance and repairs needed Documentation of road patrols, plow routes completed, and making notes of incidents observed while on the roadway Basic knowledge of electronic devices, computers, tablets Provides information and assistance as required Performs other duties as assigned by Lead Hand, Roads Foreperson, or Coordinator Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor Qualifications: DZ license with a clear drivers’ abstract Secondary school diploma 1-2 years experience operating heavy machinery like payloaders Ability to do small mechanical repairs Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act Knowledge of how to assess mechanical breakdowns that require service Shift:Mornings, afternoons and rotating shifts over a 3-week cycle. Includes weekends and holidays as scheduled.
