Piper Companies is seeking a Microbiologist to support a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing organization in the RTP area. This Microbiologist opportunity is a 6+ month contract-to-hire role focused on environmental monitoring, microbiological testing, and cleanroom operations within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. This position is a great fit for recent Life Sciences graduates looking to break into biotech, as well as experienced laboratory professionals seeking hands-on pharmaceutical manufacturing experience. Responsibilities for the Microbiologist: Perform environmental monitoring activities, including viable air, surface, and personnel sampling within controlled manufacturing and laboratory environments. Conduct routine microbiology laboratory testing and generate accurate, GMP-compliant documentation of results and observations. Evaluate environmental monitoring data, identify trends, and assist with basic investigations and troubleshooting activities. Operate and maintain sampling equipment, laboratory instruments, and testing systems used to support contamination control programs. Ensure proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of laboratory materials while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications for the Microbiologist: Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline. Understanding of basic analytical chemistry concepts, including the ability to create standard curves and calculate unknown sample concentrations through interpolation. Experience gained through coursework, internships, academic research, or industry laboratory roles in microbiology, chemistry, biotechnology, or related sciences. Comfortable completing cleanroom gowning certification and routinely working in ISO 5 and ISO 7 classified environments while spending extended periods on your feet. Strong technical writing, documentation, observation, and data analysis skills with the ability to follow procedures in a regulated setting.
