Job summary
PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time Senior Accountant for our Finance team located in Vancouver, BC. This temporary fixed-term contract is proposed to start on October 13, 2026, and end on December 3, 2027. This position is excluded from BCGEU membership. The Senior Accountant prepares, tracks, reports, and analyzes financial information to assist in the agency’s decision-making process. They oversee PLEA’s accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions. They review transactions prepared by junior staff and critically analyze complex transactions to ensure the agency’s financial records are in accordance with Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations. The Senior Accountant assesses the needs of users to prepare useful and accurate reports and budgets. This position will remain open until filled. Hours of Work: The usual hours of work in this position are Monday to Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM, based on 37.5 working hours per week. Education/Experience Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree in a related field. * Four (4) years of progressive relevant experience including financial accounting, reporting, and budgeting. * Experience responding to enquiries and providing support and service to a wide range of stakeholders. * Experience using computerized accounting systems. What You Will Do: * Perform full cycle accounting; completing financial reconciliations, reports, and returns for PLEA and related business entities. * Perform month-end accounting cycle duties such as needed, (i) inputting monthly recurring entries into Sage, (ii) completing account reconciliations as needed and (iii) performing monthly true-up calculations. * Develop and review individual program budgets. Prepare financial reports required by funders for global and individual contracts related to such programs. * Prepare budgets and reports for funding proposals, RFPs and grants, and other related items. * Share responsibilities in preparing the audited financial statements and the annual operating budget. * Perform audit preparation duties as needed. * Provide supervision to Finance Administrators and Accounting Assistants as assigned. Verify the work of others as needed for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and policies. * Provide financial support and act as liaison between the Finance department and other stakeholders. * Oversee Accounts Payable and Receivable operations and PLEA’s payment processing for vendors/suppliers and contractors/caregivers. Responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of accounting for expense transactions. * Manage and maintain PLEA’s expense management sub-systems (Nexonia and Abacus), and any related continuous enhancements. * Analyze and maintain agency investment portfolios. * Provide backfill support to other Finance positions, duties and tasks as needed. * Initiate and support process improvement projects as needed. * Ensure that all records, reports, and documentation pertaining to financial management are accurate, complete, and in compliance with PLEA’s policies and procedures. * Uphold and protect confidentiality. * Perform other related duties as required. What You Will Bring: * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel. * Demonstrated ability to design and update complex spreadsheets and produce financial reports. * Demonstrated ability to effectively collect and analyze data. * Excellent accuracy and attention to detail. * Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve issues accurately, effectively and efficiently. * Excellent time management, organizational, administrative and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy. * Excellent teamwork skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the pursuit of organizational goals. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely and communicate professionally with all levels of staff and the public. * Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, make sound decisions and be accountable for results. * Demonstrated ability to be sensitive and understanding of individuals’ social realities including issues of race, culture, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, poverty and lifestyle. * Knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations. * Knowledge of rules surrounding confidentiality, information governance and data protection. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, database systems and web-based conferencing tools.
