Senior Forest Inventory Specialist PRI Engineering | Forestry & Inventory Team Location: Ontario, Canada Position: Full-Time At PRI Engineering, we combine science, technology, and field expertise to deliver innovative solutions in engineering, environmental services, and natural resource management. We're growing our Forestry & Inventory team and are looking for a Senior Forest Inventory Specialist who brings deep technical expertise in aerial photo interpretation and forest inventory mapping, along with the leadership experience to guide projects and mentor junior staff. This is an opportunity to take on a senior technical role, shape inventory programs from the ground up, and work on meaningful projects alongside industry-leading experts. As a Senior Forest Inventory Specialist, you will contribute to and lead a variety of forest inventory and resource assessment projects, including: Forest Inventory & Photo Interpretation • Lead forest inventory mapping using aerial photography, stereo imagery, and remote sensing technologies. • Interpret forest and ecosystem attributes using advanced digital tools and methodologies. • Lead provincial forest inventories — VRI in British Columbia, AVI in Alberta, FRI in Ontario, or other jurisdictions — depending on certifications and experience. Field Operations • Lead field crews collecting forest inventory data. • Measure and assess tree, stand, and ecosystem attributes. • Oversee projects involving: – Change Monitoring Inventory (CMI) and other data collection protocols, for National Forest Inventories (NFI) or other provincial PSP/TSP programs. – Forest carbon assessments – Growth & yield studies – Ecological site classification – Other natural resource inventory initiatives Technical Leadership • Lead inventory program design, sampling strategies, data analysis, and reporting. • Collaborate with GIS, remote sensing, and spatial analysis specialists. • Mentor junior and intermediate staff and contribute to technical excellence across projects. • Manage project schedules, budgets, and priorities, and support business development and client relationships. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We're particularly interested in professionals who have: • Significant proven experience (typically 8+ years) in aerial photo interpretation and forest inventory mapping. • Certification or recognized training in forest inventory interpretation from BC or equivalent jurisdictions. • Extensive experience with timber cruising, growth & yield, and forest measurement programs. Certification in CMI and NFI programs would be considered an asset. • Registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT/RFT equivalent). • A demonstrated track record leading projects, mentoring staff, and working with multidisciplinary teams. • Experience contributing to proposals, client relationships, or business development an asset. You Should Also Demonstrate • A strong commitment to safety and field excellence. • Willingness to travel and work in remote forest environments during field seasons. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. • Relevant safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, ATV/UTV training) considered an asset.
