Job details

Protomanni & Associates is a growing, multi-practice firm of nine lawyers with a senior estates lawyer on site. We're seeking a litigation law clerk to join our team, with a primary focus on estates litigation and some general civil litigation work. Protomanni & Associates is becoming one of the biggest firms in the Niagara region. It's an amazing place to work — a tight-knit group of people, and a place where genuinely happy people want to come to work every day. The role: You'll support our estates litigation practice and assist with general civil litigation files. This is a substantive role — you'll be drafting, not just organizing. You'll handle the full lifecycle of court files: drafting and organizing documents, preparing motion and application records, affidavits, exhibits, notices, and other court materials, and managing service, filing, confirmations, and procedural requirements. You'll also review documents, flag key facts and issues for the lawyer, track deadlines and next steps independently, and correspond with clients, opposing counsel, and the court on procedural and administrative matters. What we're looking for: 2-4+ years of experience in estates and/or civil litigation (estates experience is a significant asset but not mandatory if you have otherwise strong litigation skills); Strong drafting and document-organization skills; Experience preparing motion/application records, affidavits, exhibits, notices, and other court materials; Familiarity with service, filing, confirmations, and court procedural requirements; Ability to review documents and identify important facts/issues for the lawyer; Strong file-management skills and the ability to independently track deadlines, outstanding items, and next steps; Comfortable corresponding with clients, opposing counsel, and the court on procedural and administrative matters; Experience with billing software; Independence and a proactive approach — we want someone who will flag when action is needed and who will hit the ground running. Nice to have: Experience with probate applications or passing of accounts is a strong assest; Familiarity with estates litigation procedure. What we offer: Salary: $50,000–$65,000; Full medical and dental benefits; Additional paid time off over Christmas; Life insurance; Weekly billable dockets required; Congenial firm culture with multiple practice areas; Staff events; Possibility of hybrid work. To apply: Send your resume, a brief cover letter and letters of reference to the attention of: Dana Bayley. Dbayley@protomannilaw.com Only candidates moving to the interview stage will be contacted. Protomanni & Associates is an equal opportunity employer.
