Join our team as we work to put patients and families at the center of everything we do, in the role of Recreation Therapist on our Health Disciplines Resource Team (HDRT). The Recreation Therapist with the HDRT at Providence Healthcare will provide weekend (Sundays) therapy across our inpatient rehab and palliative care units. Duties & Responsibilities The primary role of a Recreation Therapist is to provide services which utilize assessment, functional intervention, education, skill development and recreation participation to enable persons with physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and/or social limitations to acquire and/or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviors that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally, build on strengths and to function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society. Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff and members of the academic and professional community Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement and/or research in the organization Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards Is committed to providing anti oppressive and accessible care for all patients Qualifications Member of a recognized Therapeutic Recreation Association (i.e. Therapeutic Recreation Ontario, The American Therapeutic Recreation Association, The Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association); CTRS or TRO Registered; Must hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized University, or health-related undergraduate degree and Georgian post-graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period) Knowledge of Recreation Therapy assessment and therapeutic skills, interventions, various leisure activities, activity analysis, community integration resources and planning, individual and group facilitation techniques, protocol development, documentation, and volunteer utilization; Knowledge of various Recreation Therapy assessment tools and techniques; Knowledge of an individualized and systematic process to gather, analyze and interpret data; Understanding of documentation and outcome measures; Knowledge of Recreation Therapy program evaluation measures and outcome measures; Knowledge of current Therapeutic Recreation models and Standards of Practice for provincial and national affiliations; Knowledge of current Therapeutic Recreation literature, resources, standards, trends and research; Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees) Unity Health Toronto is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive organization. Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related degree with a post-graduate certificate, and be registered with a recognized Therapeutic Recreation Association. Current BLS certification or a willingness to obtain it is also required.
