THE OPPORTUNITY Ram Iron & Metal is looking for a talented and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Team. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic, under the direction of the Supervisor, Service Maintenance will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical problems and repairs to equipment, also to perform preventative maintenance and scheduled maintenance on equipment. OVERVIEW The successful candidate must be able exhibit exceptional attention to detail, physical dexterity, and a commitment to safety protocols. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be exposed to a wide variety of interesting service and repair tasks and must be able to diagnose and carry out preventative maintenance of the equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES * Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment such as balers, forklifts, skid steers, loaders, excavators, material handlers, and attachments such as broom, shear, magnet, and grapple. * Inspect and repair equipment with faults and malfunctions. * Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine the extent of repair required. * Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems, using hand and power tools. * Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that work meets manufacturer’s specifications. * Maintain attachments and working tools such as blades, winches, grapple, buckets, clamps, forks, booms, and rotators to manufacturing specifications. * Perform repair work on heavy equipment, devices, tools and assist other mechanics. * Inspect and test operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments. * Perform scheduled preventative maintenance work and complete test and maintenance reports. * Conduct daily maintenance checks on various equipment such as compressors, power and hand tools, machines, lift trucks, skid steers and record results. * Inspect the installation, modification, and commissioning of mechanical systems. * Perform proper lock/tag outs for equipment remove power sources and vent potential energy. * Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues across a range of heavy equipment models and types. * Ability to interpret technical manuals and diagrams to facilitate efficient repairs. * Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during all repair and maintenance activities. * Collaborate with other team members to prioritize and execute repair tasks efficiently. * Maintain a clean and organized workspace to enhance productivity and safety. * Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listing above. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE * Minimum of two (2) years of heavy equipment mechanic experience. * Qualified and/or certified Maintenance Mechanic 421A preferred. * Certified forklift driver is an asset. * Prior Lock-Out training and or certification. * Ozone Depletion Certificate is an asset. * Knowledge of lifting equipment, working at heights/fall arrest, hot work, lock out/tag out are essential. * Knowledge of mechanics and machine maintenance. * Qualified and certified in maintenance related equipment (i.e. Hydro, Power Pack, lathe, mill, grinders, welders, etc.). * Knowledge of welding. * Preventative maintenance experience. There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy. The employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift up to and including 50lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, walking up/down stairs, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items is occasionally required.
