INTERNAL/EXTERNAL POSTING August 25, 2026 THE RENFREW COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD requires a SUPPLY CUSTODIAN LOCATION: Arnprior Family of Schools - Based at Arnprior District High School, Arnprior, ON SCHEDULE: 8 hours per day (40 hours per week) Afternoon shifts - varies Schedule may be altered during School Breaks and subject to change NOTE: This vacancy is for an existing position. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Area Supervisor, replaces head custodians and custodians during periods of absence and performs grounds maintenance as required. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent of Grade 12. Two years in the custodial field. Ability to supervise and lead people. Proven to be dependable, trustworthy, reliable and exhibits exceptional job performance and work ethic. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (HEAD CUSTODIAN ): Must have completed the WHMIS training and lift training. Must possess the necessary communicative skills to instruct, and to train custodial employees in the performance of tasks and to relay instructions to staff from management. Must have knowledge of all cleaning methods and materials as well as health and safety items relating to the school. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the operation of all mechanical equipment in the building including cleaning equipment and the building's automation system. Able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude and to show a willingness to learn. Able to perform the physical aspects of the job including snow shoveling, sweeping and mopping as well as able to schedule the daily work of custodial staff. Able to maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and products and to prepare written reports, defect lists and other correspondence using applicable computer software including E-Base Maintenance Management Software Program, Excel, Word and e-mail. Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with subordinates, supervisors, principals, teaching staff, students and management personnel. Must have a proven ability to follow oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job. Must have knowledge of Board policies and procedures as they pertain to custodial staff. Successful completion of the "Small Drinking Water System" course would be an asset. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (CUSTODIAN): Able to clean rooms, washrooms and fixtures; mop, wash, scrub and finish floors; pick up and dispose of garbage and recycling; vacuum and/or shampoo carpets; wipe and wash windows, blackboards, ledges, railings and furniture. Able to do a thorough cleaning such as stripping, resealing and refinishing floors. Capable of operating custodial cleaning equipment and identifying simple problems with this equipment. Able to perform heavy tasks including assisting in the unloading of heavy supplies or materials. Able to perform routine maintenance activities including repairing lockers, doors and furniture; replacing fuses and light bulbs, resetting circuit breakers and unclogging drains. Capable of using manual or mechanized equipment to remove snow, cut grass and perform other grounds maintenance. Able to perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all Board policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety to protect all occupants of the building. Able to complete tasks within deadlines and adjust priorities as needed. Able to work independently as well as in a team. Able to establish and maintain excellent working relations with supervisory staff, fellow workers, students, contractors, and user groups. Able to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job. Working knowledge of email and computer software programs like Excel or Word would be an asset. Knowledge of WHMIS. Hiring will follow the requirements outlined in the CUPE 1247 Collective Agreement and the RCDSB Administrative Procedures.
