Job summary
Role Description The News Producer is a contract, on-site role based in Thunder Bay and/or Sault Ste. Marie, ON. This role is responsible for planning, producing, and coordinating local news content across television, digital, and social platforms. The News Producer collaborates with the Station Manager and local News Producers to ensure accurate, timely, and engaging news coverage. Additional responsibilities include monitoring breaking news, managing priorities, upholding editorial standards, and supporting the development of innovative storytelling approaches. Shooting, Editing, Voice over/Stand-Ups required for the role. Rate negotiable based on equipment. Qualifications Strong news judgment, editorial decision-making, and understanding of local, regional, and national news landscapes. Proficiency in news writing and script development for broadcast, digital, and social media platforms. Experience with newsroom workflows, and production tools and software. Ability to coordinate with technical teams in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail, accuracy in research and fact-checking, and commitment to ethical journalism standards. Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines. Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with a focus on inclusive and respectful teamwork. Previous experience in news production, reporting, or broadcast journalism; experience in a local newsroom is an asset. Post-secondary education in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field is preferred. Familiarity with current digital trends, social media best practices, and audience engagement strategies.
